Obituaries
For many of us, the last thing we want to do while in the throes of fresh grief is to write a loved one’s obituary. Finding the right words and including all the important details can be overwhelming.
However, getting it right can be incredibly healing. For me, writing my grandfather’s obituary and being able to get it just right brought significant peace and closure not just to me, but to his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. I want to help you do the same.
Standard Obituary:
The fee for a standard obituary process is $300.
When we begin the obituary creation process, we’ll start with up to two Facetime, Zoom, or in-person interviews to help me get a vivid picture of your loved one.
I will also send you a brief questionnaire to confirm all the concrete details of your loved one’s life (dates, cities, places of work, names of family members, etc).
I will have a draft sent to you within 48 hours of obtaining all the necessary information and chatting with loved ones.
Two different versions of the obituary at varying word counts are included in your package.
Something to consider: If you’re choosing to publish the obituary in a newspaper, make sure you contact them in advance to confirm pricing and preferred word count.
Living Obituaries
For some folks, playing a role in the creation of their obituary is a meaningful, grounding, and maybe even fun part of the end-of-life process. Painting a picture of yourself that’s true to how you want to be remembered is a great way to tell the story of your own life.
Contact me if this idea is of interest to you and we will create a tailor-made process that best serves your needs and interests. The fee for this service is $40 an hour.
Notes on Obituaries
If you need your obituary delivered ASAP, prices may be higher, but I am happy to work under a tighter deadline.
If $300 is out of reach for you and your family, contact me and we can work something out. This also applies to eulogy pricing, detailed below.
Eulogies
Similar to obituary writing, preparing a meaningful, satisfying reflection of someone you love so soon after their passing can feel daunting. Public speaking is already a challenge for many. With my help, I can guarantee that you will be 100% confident that you’re saying exactly what you mean and honoring your loved one to the best of your ability.
There are two different options for the eulogy process:
Eulogy workshopping: This option includes as many Zoom or Facetime hours as needed to create the eulogy you need. Examples of this process could include creating a eulogy based on:
A bulleted list of anecdotes about your loved one
Chats about your most precious memories of that person
Brainstorming lessons learned from observing that person’s life
This process would be entirely customizable to your needs. The fee for this service is $40 an hour.
Eulogy coaching: If you’re looking for someone to read your eulogy to in advance of the funeral or remembrance of life, I’m here for you! I’ll be happy to provide feedback on sentence structure, delivery, etc. The fee for this service is $40 an hour.
If you’re interested in having a eulogy written for you, we can discuss!
Email me here and I’ll be happy to begin either of these processes ASAP. My email address is hanraeleach [at] gmail [dot] com.
